LEARNING HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT COMMUNICATES

Through Visions, Dreams, Signs & Scripture

Course Description

This Bible School course is designed to help believers develop a deeper understanding of how the Holy Spirit communicates and guides God's people. Throughout Scripture, God has revealed His will, direction, warnings, encouragement, correction, and promises through various forms of communication, including Scripture, dreams, visions, signs, spiritual impressions, and other forms of divine guidance.

The purpose of this course is not simply to teach students how to interpret dreams or recognize spiritual signs, but to help them build a strong biblical foundation for understanding spiritual communication and, most importantly, learning how to test everything according to the Word of God.

Students will explore the biblical relationship between the Holy Spirit and the believer, learning how the Holy Spirit can lead, teach, remind, warn, comfort, and reveal things that God wants His people to understand. The course will examine biblical examples from both the Old and New Testaments and provide practical principles for recognizing the difference between biblical spiritual guidance, personal thoughts, emotions, human assumptions, and interpretations that are not supported by Scripture.

VISIONS

You will study the biblical meaning and purpose of visions and examine examples of people in Scripture who received visions from God. The course will explore why God may use visions, what a vision can communicate, and how believers should respond when they experience something they believe may be spiritually significant.

You will also learn the importance of humility and biblical discernment. Not every image, thought, or experience should automatically be considered a message from God. Therefore, students will be taught to examine spiritual experiences carefully and compare their understanding with Scripture.

DREAMS

Dreams are another subject explored throughout the Bible. From Joseph and Daniel in the Old Testament to examples in the New Testament, Scripture records situations where dreams played a role in God's communication with individuals.

This course will introduce students to biblical principles for understanding dreams while emphasizing that not every dream is necessarily a divine revelation. Students will learn how to approach dreams prayerfully and responsibly rather than assigning spiritual meaning to every detail.

The course will cover principles such as:

  • Understanding the biblical purpose of dreams

  • Recognizing symbolic elements in dreams

  • Studying biblical examples of dream interpretation

  • Understanding the importance of context

  • Avoiding assumptions and exaggerated interpretations

  • Comparing interpretations with Scripture

  • Praying for wisdom and discernment

  • Understanding when a dream may simply reflect normal thoughts, experiences, or emotions

SIGNS

The Bible contains many accounts of signs that accompanied God's work and communication. Students will examine biblical examples of signs and learn why God sometimes used signs in particular circumstances.

At the same time, students will learn an important principle: believers should not become dependent upon signs while neglecting God's written Word. The course will teach students how to approach signs carefully, avoiding superstition, fear, manipulation, or the practice of looking for hidden messages in every ordinary event.

The emphasis will remain on biblical discernment and a Christ-centered understanding of spiritual communication.

SCRIPTURE — THE FOUNDATION

A major emphasis of this course will be the authority and importance of Scripture.

Students will learn that spiritual experiences should never be placed above God's Word. Scripture provides the foundation through which believers can evaluate what they hear, see, experience, or believe they have received spiritually.

The course will encourage students to develop a disciplined habit of studying the Bible so that they can recognize teachings and spiritual experiences that are consistent with biblical truth.

Students will explore questions such as:

  • What does the Bible teach about the Holy Spirit?

  • How does the Holy Spirit guide believers?

  • How can we distinguish God's Word from our own thoughts?

  • How should dreams and visions be tested?

  • What does biblical discernment mean?

  • How should believers respond when they believe they have received spiritual direction?

  • How can Scripture help us evaluate spiritual experiences?

  • What are the dangers of misinterpreting spiritual experiences?

  • How can believers grow in spiritual maturity and wisdom?

DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT

One of the central goals of this course is to help students develop spiritual discernment.

Spiritual discernment involves learning to examine and evaluate spiritual claims and experiences carefully rather than accepting everything immediately. Students will be encouraged to pray, study Scripture, seek wisdom, examine context, and remain humble.

The course will also address common mistakes that can occur when people attempt to interpret spiritual experiences, including taking symbols out of context, assuming every dream has a prophetic meaning, confusing personal desires with divine direction, and making decisions based solely on signs or dreams.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Yous will have opportunities to apply the principles they learn to real-life situations. Through biblical case studies, Scripture-based exercises, discussions, and guided reflection, students will learn how to approach spiritual experiences responsibly.

The goal is not to create fear or confusion but to help believers become spiritually mature, biblically grounded, prayerful, and discerning.

Students will be encouraged to develop a personal practice of:

Prayer → Scripture → Discernment → Testing → Wisdom → Obedience

Rather than immediately accepting or rejecting a spiritual experience, students will learn how to examine it carefully and seek biblical understanding.

COURSE OUTCOME

By the end of this course, You will have a stronger understanding of biblical communication through the Holy Spirit and a deeper appreciation for the role of Scripture in spiritual discernment.

You will be equipped to:

  • Understand biblical teachings about the Holy Spirit.

  • Identify different forms of spiritual communication described in Scripture.

  • Study biblical examples of dreams and visions.

IMPORTANT COURSE EMPHASIS

This course does not encourage students to chase signs, dreams, visions, or supernatural experiences. Instead, it teaches students to seek God, know His Word, grow in the Holy Spirit, and exercise biblical wisdom and discernment.

The ultimate purpose of spiritual communication is not the experience itself, but knowing God, understanding His truth, growing in faith, and living according to His Word.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Through this course, students will be challenged to move beyond simply asking, “What did I see?” or “What did I dream?” and learn to ask the more important question:

“What does the Word of God teach me, and how should I respond with wisdom, faith, and obedience?”

This course is designed for believers who desire to deepen their understanding of the Holy Spirit, strengthen their knowledge of Scripture, and develop a mature and responsible approach to dreams, visions, signs, and spiritual guidance.
